As a child, I read non-stop. Everything from the daily newspaper to whatever I could grab during our twice-weekly public library trips.
I was a dumbfounded and confused 11-year-old when I learned the library had a limit to how many books one could check out at a time — “why are you stifling learning?!” young me thought.
But as I aged, the pressures and obligations of adulthood chipped away at the time I devoted to reading.
Until last year.
Late last year, I decided that it was up to me to be intentional about what I read, how I learn, where I get my information. I challenged myself to read 3 books a month (quite a challenge when you consider that I had been reading 0 books per month).
Four months into my personal challenge and I have consumed nearly 16 books. I am on track to read 4–5 per month on a regular basis. In addition to the regular daily habits I have (biblical study, industry blogs/news, emails, Medium, etc)
This reading challenge has benefited me more than I imagined. I write more, I think deeper on topics, I am more articulate, and can recall more detail about a number of things — all of this was unlocked because of reading.
Thanks again for sharing this. Reading and continual, intentional learning will pay immeasurable dividends for anyone who takes on the challenge.
